Homeowners/Renters Insurance Shopper's Guide

One of the goals of the Kansas Insurance Department is to help you be an informed buyer of insurance. It is our belief that the best way to maintain a healthy competitive marketplace is to provide consumers with the tools needed to comparison shop.

This homeowners/renters shopper's guide does not include all insurance companies authorized to sell and service insurance in Kansas; rather, it shows examples of premium charges for the top volume writer private insurance companies. Rates as of January 1, 2020.

The plans shown include annual premiums for a 15 year old three-bedroom ranch style home with full basement totaling 2,500 square feet with 30-year composite shingles. The homeowner had one claim in the last five years. All-peril deductible is $1,000 and wind/hail deductible is $2,500. $100,000 coverage on personal liability and $1,000 medical expense on each category. The dwelling amount is considered to be 80 percent of the dwelling replacement value. While these examples may not fit your situation exactly, they can provide a useful way to compare the range of premiums offered.
