Financial Examinations
Overview
The Kansas Insurance Department is required by law to conduct financial examinations into the affairs of domestic insurers and HMOs. In addition, we also have the authority to conduct an examination into the affairs of any insurance corporation, or other insurer, doing or authorized to do any insurance business in this state.
Financial examinations monitor the financial condition of domestic companies to prevent insolvencies and to take appropriate action against financially unsound companies in order to protect Kansas policyholders. The purpose of a financial examination is to verify that an examined entity’s financial statement, as of the examination date, is in compliance with Department laws, rules, and regulations. The findings of the examination are reported in a factual, unbiased manner and written in a form that relates directly to statutory and regulatory standards or requirements of Kansas. If a company violates Kansas statutes or regulations, the Department acts to ensure the company complies and continues to follow Kansas insurance laws.
